Description
Often I drive or ride highway 36 through central North Dakota as I traverse between my two homes, one in the central part of the state and one in the eastern Red River Valley area, one of my family's farms. This stretch of road is ripe with open spaces, and storms can be seen for well over a hundred miles! On this summer night I entered a huge diagonal storm system reaching from northeastern Wyoming to southeastern Manitoba, moving in an easterly direction. As I approached, it split! In over 200 miles I experienced not a drop of rain, though tornadoes touched ground a head of me. As always, my 'sweet spot' was this quaint old school house, where I could see storms raging all around. But I was safe. Summer in North Dakota. That's the way it works, sometimes.
